First, the diploma; then, the handshake; then, the hand sanitizer

After shaking hands with the department chair, the dean and the president, the students walked down from the stage to find a table with big bottles of hand sanitizer, a precaution in these times of concern about swine flu.

Our college’s graduation was this evening. My duty as a marshal was to sit on the stage before the ceremony started, which is where I was when I took this photo. A colleague and I then signaled the audience and students to rise when the platform party was to process.
