UF Undergraduate Research Symposium encourages research and research sharing

Research practice – More than 100 undergraduates took part in the Undergraduate Research Symposium today on campus. I was there with my mentee, Heather Read. She conducted 16 in-depth interviews with women in the media. Her research investigated the role of gender discrimination in journalism today.

The goal of the Undergraduate Research Program is to provide undergraduates with the opportunity to work with a faculty member on a research project. The students selected for the program receive a stipend. They present their research findings at the symposium — either as a 10-minute presentation or as a poster — and must publish their papers either in the Journal of Undergraduate Research or another publication.

The students were professionally attired. Their proud mentors were there. It was a day of high enthusiasm. I enjoyed being part of it.
