Tumblr is going to have a small boost in users over the next week with about 250 MMC 2100 (Writing for Mass Communication) students at the University of Florida opening new Tumblr accounts.

Last year, the MMC 2100 lab instructors and I agreed that we should including blogging in the course. Students needed to have that online experience. Our first blogging was last spring semester.

This semester like last spring, I found that only about 5 percent of the students had blogs. By this time next week, all 250 of them will.

I selected Tumblr as the blog for us because:

• Posting is very straightforward and simple.
• Posting is free.
• Posting can be done from an iPhone.
