Importace of early-on student discussion

Linda Puntney, Peggy Gregory and I joined a teacher induction coordinator from Tennessee in a warm-up activity. The follow-up pointed out that the longer it takes for a student to speak in class the less likely the student is to speak. We agreed that this a good teaching tip. That first-day interview activity we often use in journalism class is a good way to get everyone involved right from the first class meeting.
